Most World War II veterans didn’t get a parade when they came home from the war. They started families,
careers and lived very rewarding lives. But today, many have not been able to visit the national
memorial in Washington DC that is dedicated to their honor and service. Now the National Honor Flight
Network and the Glacial Hills Honor Flight program wants to fly veterans back to Washington DC to
visit their memorial and the other war memorials, and to experience this most enjoyable trip with
other fellow veterans.
This trip will be free for the veterans, which is being planned for late September or early October.
The all expense paid trip includes plane fare, buses, food, lodging, tour fees and a special t-shirt
and cap. Upon arriving in Washington, the veterans are welcomed by the Honorable Robert Dole,
World War II veteran and former Senator from Kansas. We are working diligently to raise funds
and are accepting veteran applications for a flight this fall. Recent statistics show that we lose
over 1,000 WWII veterans daily. Time is running out.
Contributions from the public are needed to make this project a success. Veteran applications
will be put on a waiting list as they are received in our office. All contributions go toward
flight expenses therefore contributions can not be received for any specific veteran.
In addition to the necessary funds, volunteers are needed to go as guardians for our veterans.
We are planning to send at least 20 veterans and need at least five guardians to assist them.
The guardians are asked to provide $250 toward the $500 cost of their trip. Guardians assist
those in wheelchairs, help with boarding and other needs that occur. Spouses can’t go as
guardians but other family members can.
Send your tax-deductible contribution to Glacial Hills RC&D at 318 Broadway, Valley Falls, Ks 66088.
